CILL DARA HOUSING COMPANY

Back in 1992 a young county councillor by the name of Sean o' Fearghail became aware that there was a great need for social housing in Kildare town.

Sean spoke to a number of people who were on the housing list of Kildare county council, people who had little hope of ever getting a house.

A committee was formed and the people started to meet every week in the c.y.m.s. hall where they talked about what was happening.

It was agreed to purchase a small plot of land at Bishopland to build the first houses.

Work started in 1992 and during the following year the houses were finished and while they were being built one of the prospective tenants moved onto the site to stay to make sure that there was no damage done to the nearly completed houses..

The houses were finished in 1993 and on the 12th of April1993 the first tenants moved in the houses that was called Fennor Lawns Bishopland.

There were a total of 12 houses built in the first phase and most of the first tenants are still there.

The second phase of Cill Dara housing company started in 1996 and was completed in 1997
There were a total of 28 houses built

The houses were finished in 1997. The estate was named Oakland grove
.
The third phase started in 2001 when Cill Dara housing company started building 56 new houses. 12 of the houses were passed on to Kildare county council and the remainder of the houses (44) were retained by Cill Dara housing company.

The new estate was called Willow Grove and Meadow Court.

These houses were allocated on the 19th of July 2002..

The Cill Dara housing company then purchased 14 new houses at Loughminane green, green road in Kildare.

Tenants moved in on the 5th of October 2004. This was a new venture for the company as these 14 homes were in a private estate.
.

The Cill Dara housing company will continue to build and house people who would ordinarily have little chance of getting a house.

The following comments are not from the Cill Dara housing company, but are from a person who was at the very first meeting and was able to see all the progress

As it was made not being a political person and being completely neutral I can honestly say that without the hard work and long hours that Sean o' Fearghail and Michael Hughes and the committee put in to get the first phase off the ground, the enormously successful housing phases would never have been completed.

Having known Sean from when he became a councillor I can honestly say that I have had more disagreements with him than with any other public representative.

This was because he always answered his letters, and now his emails.

People who would know better say that he has brought more to Kildare town in his first term as a TD than all of the previous TD's added together. Long may he remain on the Cill Dara housing company and of course as our TD.
