There have been concerts, shows and all night dances, famous pop shows and
pantomime show in the CYMS since it opened in 1948. The latest round of shows is
a very mixed lot. The schools put on shows several times a year. Pat
Conlon has his big shows on each year.
Vicky Barry has put a big show on there now. Carmel Sommers puts on a huge
display of her famous Irish Dancers. Brian Brady came along and started to put
on musicals. The run for four nights and thre is standing room only at them.
Brian also puts his show on around the different towns in the county. He also
produces and directs shows in partnership with other groups. Brian's shows are
always the talk of the town for weeks. After each show parents ask him if it is
possible for their kids to sign up for the next concert.
There are
application forms available on the night of the shows, it is always advisable to
register on the night of the show because lots of people have been dissapointed
when they discover that all of the places have been filled..
The CYMS decided to put on a Pantomine at Christmas a few years ago.
The
planning and all the arrangements were left to Esther Brady (with help from the
committee). To organise the show took months of planning to organise and a lot
of running around to get the people in to play the different prts, and arrange
the costumes, tickets, advertising and a thousand other things. She was on the go
night and day but when the cutain opened on the first night but when the curtain
opened on the first night it was plain to see all the work that Esther had put
into organising the show had been worth it.The show this year will see the
"House Full" sign will go up putside the main doors as the did for the other
show.
